Adobe to open source Flex framework

26th April

2007

Adobe has today announced its plans to release the Flex source code under the terms of the Mozilla Public License, giving developers the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the framework.

The strategy will mean a closer working relationship between the development team and end user which, in turn, Adobe hopes will attract new developers, improve the framework architecture and lead to opportunities for collaboration with other open source projects.

Adobe will continue to offer a commercial version of the Flex SDK.

More information on the move can be found in the Adobe press release and on the Adobe Labs pages.

SEIKO electronic ink watch

23rd April

2007

Electronic ink, electronic paper, e-paper - whatever you call it, it’s the future. SEIKO’s Electro-phoresis Display watch is the first electronic ink watch on the market, and its a real beauty.

The slim, wristband style watch can be set to either “economy” or “mystery” mode. The former shows the time in a easy to read format that consumes minimal power; the latter displays the time in a more imaginative style.

The watch will be available later this year for an estimated $2,000.

2007

I’ve been led to believe that there is a strong temptation amongst certain individuals to borrow a neighbour’s wireless internet connection without first seeking permission from the appropriate neighbour. A harmless enough activity you may think, however Reuters reports today that two people have recently been arrested and cautioned for doing exactly that.

Although many would consider an unprotected network to be fair game, the act of piggy-backing a wireless internet connection is an offence officially termed “dishonestly obtaining electronic communications services with intent to avoid payment”.

So if you must use someone else’s wireless connection, either ask them first or prepare for a night in the slammer…
